The Problem With Brand Naming

Brand naming has two layers rarely addressed together. The first is evaluation — when you have a list of candidate names, how do you know which one fits your brand? Most tools offer aesthetics or vibes, not data-backed reasons. The second is connection — even when you find a name you love, there is no structured bridge between that name and the visual identity it should produce. Designers start from scratch. Colors, logo geometry, taglines — none of it is derived from the name itself.

Klexaro solves both: evaluating a name strategically using phonetic science, and connecting it to a coherent brand identity through engineered AI prompts derived from the name's acoustic properties.

The Science Behind Klexaro — Sound Symbolism

Klexaro is built on established academic research on sound symbolism — the principle that specific phonemes create predictable perceptual effects in the human brain. This is documented in peer-reviewed work by Klink (2000), Pathak et al. (2017-2020), Nielsen and Rendall (2011), Motoki et al. (2023), and Murdock (1962).

The framework combines three methodologies: research-backed implementation of peer-reviewed findings validated against real brand phoneme patterns, data-driven empirical phoneme analysis of real market-leading brands, and AI-assisted semantic mapping connecting sound symbolism principles to brand strategy grounded in real brand phoneme analysis.

The Sound Print — Phonetic Fingerprint of Every Brand Name

Every brand name analyzed in Klexaro receives a Sound Print — its complete phonetic signature analyzed across five dimensions:

  • Consonant Phonemes — the textural backbone. Voiceless plosives, voiced plosives, fricatives, sonorants, and affricates each carry documented perceptual qualities from sound symbolism research.
  • Vowel Phonemes — the emotional resonance. Front vowels, back vowels, central vowels, and diphthongs produce distinct perceptual effects on perceived size, weight, brightness, and energy.
  • Syllable Structure — the perceived market positioning. Research by Pathak et al. (2019) confirmed syllable count has measurable impact on brand perception across market tiers.
  • Phonetic Flow — the rhythm. Klexaro calculates a Euphony Score measuring the ratio of hard consonant interruptions to continuous sounds, classifying each name as Smooth, Harsh, or Balanced.
  • Accent Placement — where the name's energy lands. Based on Murdock (1962) primacy and recency research, identifying whether a name is front-weighted, end-weighted, or balanced.

How the Brand Name Scoring System Works

Step 1 — Sound Print

Every name is decomposed into its individual phonemes — its unique acoustic fingerprint. For example, the name Baksal becomes B, AE, K, S, AH, L.

Step 2 — Brand Profile

Each Brand Style has a precise phonetic instruction set. The Modern profile defines 11 preferred consonants (P, T, K, F, S, SH, V, Z, CH, L, R), 6 preferred vowels, target syllables of 1 to 2, Harsh phonetic flow, and Front-weighted accent placement.

Step 3 — Strategic Fit Score (70% of final score)

The Sound Print is compared against the Brand Profile. The Composition Score measures what percentage of the name's phonemes match the profile's preferred sounds. A Structure Modifier applies based on syllable count, phonetic flow, and accent placement. These combine into the Strategic Fit Score weighted at 70% of the overall result.

Step 4 — Technical Quality Score (30% of final score)

The name is evaluated across four usability pillars each weighted equally at 25%: Optimal Length for recall, Pronunciation ease for new customers, the Bar Test for clarity in noisy environments, and Safety Check for unintended negative meanings.

Validated Against Real Global Brands

  • Chanel (SH AH N EH L) — scored 97 overall, 100% Luxury fit. Warm and Flowing sound profile. All 5 phonemes align with the Luxury brand profile.
  • Google (G UW G AH L) — scored 97 overall, 100% Playful fit. Powerful and Strong sound profile. All 4 phonemes align with the Playful brand profile.
  • La Mer (L AA M EH R) — scored 95 overall, 100% Luxury fit. Warm and Flowing sound profile. All 5 phonemes align with the Luxury brand profile.
  • Rolex (R OW L EH K S) — scored 97 overall, 100% Technical fit. Warm and Flowing sound profile. All 6 phonemes align with the Technical brand profile.

  • Syllable Combinations — unique abstract names from distinct sound blocks. Examples: Kodak, Zappos.
  • Portmanteau Blends — fuses two words into a new concept. Examples: Pinterest, Groupon, Instagram.
  • Markov Chain Patterns — completely new pronounceable words modeled from phonetic patterns. Examples: Hulu, Roku.
  • Letter Substitutions — modernizes existing words by swapping specific letters. Examples: Lyft, Flickr, Tumblr.
  • Phonetic Morphing — evolves base words by altering sound structure. Examples: Scribd, Reddit.
  • Morpheme Combinations — assembles names from linguistic roots, prefixes, and suffixes. Examples: Shopify, Omniture, BioWare.
  • Dictionary Based Words — real words augmented with brand-aligned suffixes. Examples: Spotify, Apple, Slack.

The On-Device Pronunciation Engine

Klexaro uses a hierarchical three-tier pronunciation engine. First it queries the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary with 133,854 entries. If not found, it checks a curated database of 2,800 real brand names. For invented words and neologisms, a specialized 6MB on-device neural network predicts pronunciation trained on both the dictionary and the brand database. All analysis runs entirely on-device with no internet connection required.

Brand Collision Detection

Klexaro automatically cross-references every name against 2,800 curated global brands for phonetic and visual similarity. A separate safety layer runs 9,800 checks across 27 languages screening for profanity, sensitive terms, and negative sentiment associations. Every check runs on-device. Pro users can extend the collision database with their own custom brand data.

From Concept to Blueprint

You select the creative approach. The engines execute with precision.

Step 1 — Define Strategy

Select a Brand Style such as Luxury or Playful. The Strategic Blueprint shows your Name Structure and Sound Palette before any names are generated.

Step 2 — The Engine

The patent-pending engine uses a proprietary Neural AI Pronunciation Engine and over 1.34 million data points to perform deep linguistic analysis, brand collision checks, and sentiment risk analysis — all done 100% offline for complete privacy.

Step 3 — The Blueprint

Receive vetted names and a professional Creative Brief — your blueprint for generating a complete brand identity with any AI. Klexaro functions as an orchestration layer: it produces the data blueprint derived from the Sound Print, and external AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or Midjourney execute from that blueprint. The name and the identity are built from the same phonetic foundation.

Our Story

We tried to make brand naming systematic. Klexaro was built by an engineer and founder who, like most new founders, started by asking AI to help name a company. The names came easily — but there was no way to connect them to anything. Why does this name fit the brand? What colors go with it? What should the logo feel like? Every decision felt disconnected from the name itself. That frustrating experience led to building a personal naming lab, which became a framework, which became code, which became Klexaro.
